Why is the Moon colourless(無(wú)色的)?
▼
Despite(盡管) appearances, the Moon is not entirely devoid(缺乏的) of colour.
Apollo astronauts described its colour as ‘brownish’. Careful study shows that the dark areas, or ‘maria’, display hints(暗示) of blue or brown while the highland areas have faint(模糊的) traces(痕跡) of yellow, pink and pale blue.
These differences are mainly due to varying(不同的) amounts(數(shù)量) of metals such as iron or titanium(鈦) in the surface minerals. Unfortunately, the human eye isn’t sensitive(敏感的) enough to pick out these slight differences in colour from a distance. However, much of the lunar(月亮的) surface contains minerals that are naturally grey and these dominate(控制) the colour we perceive(察覺(jué)) from Earth. AGu
