海子，原名査海生，出生于1964年3月24日，安徽省懷寧縣高河鎮査灣人，從小在農村長大，1979年15歲時考入北京大學法律系，1982年開始詩歌創作，在后來被稱為“北大三詩人”之一。1989年3月26日他在山海關臥軌自殺，年僅25歲。
在他作為詩人的短暫的生命里，海子保持了一顆圣潔的心。他曾長期不被世人理解，但是他是中國上世紀80年代新文學史中一位全力沖擊文學與生命極限的詩人。
