whether 和 if 作“是否”解，有時可以換用，有時不能換用。在賓語從句中，現不能換用的幾種情況歸納如下：希望幫到你
1．所引導的從句作介詞賓語時，用whether，不用if。例如：
I worry about whether I hurt her feelings.
我擔心是否傷了她的感情。
I haven’t settled the question of whether I’ll go back home.
我是否回家還沒定。
2．引導賓語從句，從句置于句首表示強調時，用whether，不用if。例如：
Whether this is true（or not），I can’t tell.
Whether it is a defect or not，I don’t quite know.這是不是個錯誤，我不知道。
3．和動詞不定式連用時，用whether，不用if。例如：
I don’t know whether to accept or refuse.我不知道是接受還是拒絕。
I don’t know whether to see my doctor today.我不知道今天是否去看醫生。
4．直接與or not連用時，用whether，不用if。例如：
I didn’t say whether or not he’ll be staying at home. 我沒說她是否呆在家里。
Can you tell me whether or not the train has left? 你能否告訴我火車是不是已經開了?
