強哥詞匯說第三期：詞根base
base是一個常見詞，表示基礎，但是它的來歷卻不是每個童鞋都清楚的。我們在很早的時候學過一個生活用詞：basin表示臉盆。其實這個詞是大有來歷的，古羅馬人將吃飯用的碗叫做bachinus，看來古人用盆吃飯，也是食量夠大的。后來，騎士們所帶著的頭盔因為有點像倒扣過來的碗兒被稱為basin,在英法戰爭的時候，這個詞在13世紀帶入到了英國，成了現在的樣子，表示臉盆，用這個來洗臉，正因為是盆，所以就想到了其形狀“凹陷”的特點，因此在意思上就進行了延展，basin也有“凹地、盆地”的意思，因為水往低處走，所以水會向洼地流淌，因此basin又有一個意思表示的是“流域”的意思，比如theAmazon Basin。
