2017年1月10日，奧巴馬揮手告別了八年之久的總統生涯。與前屆總統幾分鐘的告別演講不同，他用長達一小時的演講呼吁人們重視美國自建國以來一直推崇的民主，一起建設偉大的美國，追尋每個人心中的美國夢。拋開演講內容涉及到的政治軍事事實以及某些價值觀不談，演講文本用詞之準確、句法之嚴謹優美、演講呈現之張力，絕對是英語學習的極佳范本。奧巴馬的告別演講較英國前任首相卡梅倫告別演講用詞更加復雜，比如說vigilant,sectarianism等等；同時也輸出了大量關于美國歷史、社會熱點的信息，比如說他反復提到found fathers，individual American dreams，LGBT rights issues。

縱觀全篇，句法比較突出的都是排比句，it's not...it's...it's...; that is where...that is where... over the course of these eight years, i have seen...i have seen...; for..., it means that, for..., it means that...。并且時時刻刻在強調我們作為一個整體，感染力極強。
從小到大的英語學習，都堅持把單詞放在語境里學習。只有在備考前一個星期會把相應詞匯考綱反復地看幾遍。什么扇貝英語、不背單詞APP，真心覺得有點雞肋，可能是我記憶力太差，背個幾遍還是不記得。但是把優秀的演講、散文、小說、議論文拿出來細細品味，收獲的比我想象的多很多。
