討論了這么多晚的自我存在，不免讓人對世界的真實感到懷疑，假如世界是假的，那真理與公平又該去哪里尋找？人類還能得到自我救贖嗎？在感到消沉的此刻，我們需要菅野洋子的《Living Inside the Shell》驅走這焦慮，帶來一點點美好和希望。
作為《攻殼機動隊》TV版第二季的片尾曲，這首《Living Inside the Shell》通篇采用明亮的大和弦，以振奮人心的弦樂作為主基調，奏出樂觀之音。歌詞也頗具神圣性，就如一個徜徉于信仰大門之外的人，忽然遇到傳授福音的神，在神的引導之下看見了真實的自己。菅野洋子自小成長在一個基督教家庭，對塑造這種情景的創作自然是得心應手。在看盡了滄桑之后，仍然保持對美好的向往，或許才是我們應對生活應有的態度。
歌曲的演唱者是美國樂隊The contes的主唱兼吉他手Steve Conte。Steve Conte此前曾與菅野洋子合作過多次，最著名的作品有《Cowboy Bebop》的《Rain》、《Call me》和《No reply》，《狼雨》的主題曲《Stray》，《翼神傳說》的《Garden of Everything》等等。他的唱腔帶有濃重的鼻音和滄桑的嘶啞，讓人想到來自美國西部的牛仔，非常適合唱搖滾和民謠。而他與菅野洋子合作之后大大拓寬了自己的風格之路。在菅野洋子為他量身定做的大量作品里，他既唱粗憂傷獷的老男人歌，又唱深情款款的小年輕慢歌，在菅野手上變成了一顆燦爛的星星。
前奏的中提琴和大提琴二重奏，優雅地拉開了序幕。Steve Conte慵懶的聲音唱出歌詞，句尾的裝飾音。我們仿佛是在聽著歌者在夕陽下徘徊的內心戲：雖然有所彷徨，但對自己仍然抱有堅定的信念，繼續前行。

緊跟著，一個女聲開始輕輕念白，仿佛天使在耳語，引導歌者直視藏在軀殼中的靈魂，引導歌者連上更大的信息網絡，去找尋自我的意義，甚至要去與別人的思想融為一體，體會新的自我蘇醒的喜悅。
結尾部分Conte反復演唱副歌段，一次比一次更加高亢，和聲更加復雜，甚至最后人聲被弦樂二重奏簇擁著逐漸減弱，就像我們目送歌者跟隨天使飛升而去，漸行漸遠，完成了一次奇跡的見證。
假如說押井守的劇場版是沉郁壓抑的，是以放棄自我求得超越，那么神山健治的TV版則給出自我堅持的答案，仍給予治愈的希望。為這樣的故事核心制作溫柔堅強的曲子，正是菅野洋子的強項。每當故事完結，提琴重奏奏響時，我們仍可以對明天抱有期待。
