我發(fā)現(xiàn)清晨是我一天中精神最為亢奮的時段，適合學習和工作。
這個夏季，每天五點?我都會自然醒來，或者先去附近的菜市場買點菜回來后讀書，要么直接打開電腦開始翻譯、寫感想和總結(jié)。
今早翻譯的是昨晚擱下的一小篇 Special Power of Attorney（特別委托書）。
文章開頭便給譯者下了馬威，扔出一個長句，我統(tǒng)計了下字數(shù)，131個英文單詞！還好，未突破此前見過的最長記錄。
先來看看句子（為保護客戶的權益，此處從網(wǎng)絡摘抄其他資料的類似框架）：

下面談談翻譯步驟：
1. 剔除限定成分，找出句子主干
法律文書的句子之所以長，主要原因在于確保行文的嚴謹性和準確性，限定成分特別多。因此，拿到一個大長句時，首先應該剔除限定成分，找出句子主干。以上述句子為例，其句子主干為：
XXXX CO., LTD. hereby names, constitutes and appoints XXXX to? be its Attorneys-in-Fact, to do and perform any and all of the following acts and deeds.
參考翻譯：XXXX有限公司茲委托XXXX公司作為實際代理人，代為處理以下授權事項。

注：我前幾年在某公證處做翻譯時發(fā)現(xiàn)，超過90%的中文委托書（譯文除外）只表述“委托”，此處并不出現(xiàn)“指派”和“授權”等字眼。這點可在Google輸入框中輸入“委托書” “茲委托”兩個關鍵詞來驗證。
?此處涉及復疊詞（如題干中的name、constitute、appoint）的翻譯規(guī)則，網(wǎng)絡上關于這方面的總結(jié)不勝枚舉。其中，豆瓣上《【譯海拾珠】英文合同中的復疊詞和“連串詞”》講得較為詳細，而且它融入孫萬彪先生的《英漢法律翻譯教程》，顯得更具權威性，以下摘抄部分顯示：
法律英語在用詞方面的特點之一，是常常將兩個同義詞或近義詞復疊在一起使用，形成相對固定的詞組，或者為了加強語勢，或者為了措辭嚴謹。在翻譯時，可以翻譯成一個漢語詞，或者翻譯為兩個或多個，具體看兩個復疊詞的關系以及上下文需要。 如：null and void 無效。
法律英語的另外一個特點是，把一連串意義相關或相近的詞放在一起，以求全面而無遺漏。但是，由于并不是每個詞都有漢語對譯，因此給翻譯造成難題。處理這個問題的辦法是，有對譯的譯出，沒有的只能暫告闕如。 如：action and suit 訴訟。
