任何一門外語,開始總是快樂的,學(xué)幾句再簡單不過的常用語就能產(chǎn)生我仿佛已經(jīng)會說它的錯覺,然而,真正掌握它要走的路卻很長,比如,英語吧,對中國學(xué)生而言,從一開始只要學(xué)會書本上簡單的問候語,水果食物和一些人稱,簡單的語法就能考高分,到漸漸的需要背更多的單詞才能讀懂一篇文章,更別提考高分,但是從小生長在國外的小朋友,哪怕只有小學(xué)的水平,寫出來的文章就很成熟,無論從用詞還是思維,其中最大的差距就是他們每天都在學(xué)習(xí)如何用英文去表達(dá)身邊的人事物,也就是練習(xí),而我們學(xué)的東西僅僅停留在應(yīng)試層面,脫離了書本,就沒辦法張嘴描述。
常常有學(xué)生問我,為什么買了很多詞匯書,各種紅寶書,綠寶書,藍(lán)寶書,翻兩遍就靜靜的躺在書架上,從來沒背完過A字母,更不用說其他,剛上大學(xué)的時候,為了考專業(yè)四級,我也買過各種詞匯書,動詞搭配書,短語書,結(jié)果都差不多,沒有耐心背下去,究其原因還是這類書本身并沒有吸引力,有時候一本在別人看來很有趣的小說,充滿故事曲折離奇的情節(jié),我們都讀不下去,何況枯燥的,只是簡單羅列的詞匯書,哪怕它被排版的多么生動形象五彩斑斕。
后來考專業(yè)八級的時候,我徹底放棄背單詞,考前做得最多的是讀精讀課本,讀報紙,后面可以給大家推薦一些,每天中午吃過午飯就去圖書館的閱讀室,那時候人會較少,安靜,讀起來更容易入心,當(dāng)然也會帶著筆記本和中性筆,看到精彩的搭配和表達(dá)就會記下來,每天看美劇,很多人會去聽新聞,但我覺得電視節(jié)目更能真正泡耳朵,畢竟新聞很多都跟觀眾沒有切身關(guān)聯(lián),如果連中文新聞都沒看過,直接聽英文會有排斥心理,就算勉強(qiáng)聽完也不會想再來一遍,所以頂多是完成任務(wù)式的,因此我傾向看劇。
一畢業(yè)就投身教育行業(yè),做了雅思口語老師,遇到很多學(xué)員,每個人存在不同的問題,最緊迫還是詞匯,想說又說不出,教給她們又記不住,反復(fù)觀察還是發(fā)現(xiàn)根源在于:她對這些事物本身缺乏背景知識,所以生詞不但形生,她腦海里連畫面都沒有。
因此,我自己開始真正找尋讓學(xué)生不用死記硬背也能記單詞的方法,看新聞是其中之一,也是今天要講的重點(diǎn)。明明我剛剛還說聽新聞并不能提高?只是方法不對而已,看新聞可以切實(shí)提升詞匯量。

拿今天北京的天氣來講,沙塵暴預(yù)警,大風(fēng)預(yù)警,室外能見度不足百米,很多人出現(xiàn)咳嗽等癥狀,去年嚴(yán)重的時候,學(xué)校工廠相繼關(guān)停,室內(nèi)大家用空氣凈化器,出門帶口罩;我們每天身處其中,中文可以說一大推,那英文到底怎么講?
我整理了BBC News 里的一些內(nèi)容,看看是否看一眼就能記住一些所謂的生詞難詞?
城市被霧霾籠罩
1. Dust storm chokes Beijing and northern China.
(chokes: 使窒息,生活在這座城市里的人很能體會什么叫窒息)
2. A dust storm is choking a large swathe of northern China including the capital, Beijing.
(a large swathe: 一大片區(qū)域,從城市地圖可以看到)

(air quality readings: 空氣質(zhì)量數(shù)據(jù); soared: 飆升了,其實(shí)就是PM2.5 爆表的意思)

(bout of:發(fā)作的意思,這里可以理解為新一輪; reducing visibility:能見度降低)

(envelope:名詞信封,這里動詞指籠罩)

(darken: 使變暗,模糊)
