As 2007 rolled into 2008, Musk's life became more tumultuous. On June 16, 2008, Musk filed for divorce. Although they didn't disclose the situation right away, Justine left hints on her blog. Soon enough, the Musks had achieved celebrity divorce status. Justine was upset and struggled to speak about her relation with Musk after years of the settlement.

So Musk tumbled into a deep funk after several weeks of his divorce file. His friend, Lee, wanted to do something to cheer hime up. While they were on the way to the headquarters of Aston Martin, he tried to goad Musk into a night, coaxed Musk into going to a club. Musk met with Riley, a twenty-two-year-old up-and-coming actress, at the club called Whisky Mist, in Mayfair. They immediately zeroed in on each other. Later, Musk proposed to Riley and she accepted.
