"Coming to terms"——妥協。一般是商業談判中的最后一步,往往要經過或是唇槍舌劍、或是針鋒相對以后才有的結果。而在本章中,作者覺得,在閱讀中,"Coming to terms"僅僅是第一個步驟——即讀者的“妥協”。我想大概是,讀者忠于讀物、讀者忠于作者的思想感情吧。畢竟"Unless the reader comes to terms with the author, the communication of knowledge from one to the other does not take place. A term, as you will see shortly, is the basic element of communicable knowledge."
"No Ambiguity"閱讀中不能有模棱兩可的感覺,要1是1,2是2的,作者說同一個單詞有著不同的意思,如果讀者代入了自己的情感,試圖不向作者“妥協”的話,理解成另外的那一層意思,那么勢必與作者的情感相比會出現偏差,因此,作者向我們強調了"Where there is unresolved ambiguity in communication, there is no communication, or at best it must be incomplete."
中國還有句古話:盡信書不如無書。是要follow作者的情感,但是也不能失了自己的判斷,唯一有效的方法就是多讀多看,提高自己的閱讀能力。有趣的是,作者在最后與我的觀點不謀而合"The more you put it into practice, the more you will appreciate the intricacies of the problem."
