dismal: 1，慘淡，凄涼的（狀況、環境、市場）；陰沉的（天氣）。2，（非正式）不熟練的；差勁的。dismal failure，白費勁。
pin hope/faith on sb./sth.: 寄希望于；指望。
pin做名詞的時候可以是別針、胸針、徽章，做動詞則是（用別針）固定、別住。短語的意思也就很好理解了。

senior：和職位掛鉤的時候是指高級的；和比賽掛鉤的時候是指成人的（對應 junior）；對老年人表示尊敬的叫法是 senior citizen；如果是 senior student，那就是指高中/大學還有一年就畢業的那幫學生啦。
sum up：總結、概括，和summarize同意
domestic：國內的，非常常見的一個詞。GDP里的D就是domestic，gross domestic product，國內生產總值。
box office：票房。因為早期劇院、電影院等需要購票進入的場所的售票處都是小盒子一樣的亭子或者小房間，因此被稱為box office，后來這個詞組慢慢就演變成電影/戲劇票房收入的意思了，拍《權力的游戲》的電視臺HBO的全稱就是Home Box Office，因為HBO是需要單獨付費訂閱的，所以相比其他免費的電視臺，起這個名字也就好理解了。感覺HBO起這個名字也是為了表示自己的節目都是電影一樣的大制作，嗯，它顯然做到了。

moviegoer：電影觀眾，很好理解，movie和go，加上表人的后綴-er組成。和 audience 是同義詞，但后者更廣，是觀眾、聽眾和讀者的意思。可以是電影電視戲劇演講小說繪畫的目標。單數和復數都用，作為集合名字，后面的be動詞可以是單數也可以是復數。
Subtle：不明顯的；微妙的；巧妙的；靈活的。非常高頻的一個詞，在不同語境中可以理解成很多意思，后面可以是顏色、味道，也可以是語氣、計劃等，但本質是指不明顯的、不直接的（那就是巧妙或者靈活啦）。
不負責任詞匯拓展：subtitle：字幕。sub-下方的，title標題，銀幕下方的標題，自然就是字幕啦。
不負責任詞匯拓展：submarine，潛艇。sub-下方的；marine海的，海洋的：海洋下的東西就是潛艇了。最近看了電影《敦刻爾克》的話，會發現里面把潛艇稱為U-boat，而不是submarine。電影里的 U-boat 是專指德國在兩次世界大戰中使用的潛艇。
sub-前綴的詞還有很多，很多都是高頻詞。
sequel：續集。如果讀關于電影的英文新聞，這個詞能見到好多遍。搭配：a sequel to sth. 如果某部電影要拍前傳呢？則用prequel。pre-表示“前、早先”的前綴，很好理解。
merchandise:這里指的是相關商品，衍生商品，大家更熟悉的叫法是“周邊”。是和和電影相關的服裝、紀念品、道具，目的當然是繼續撈錢啦。
更廣的意思就是商品和貨品了。同義詞有goods、commodity、produce。強調原材料、用途的話用 goods，強調買賣的話用 merchandise。中文里常說的大宗商品常用的是 commodity。produce 則通常指農產品或制造品。

devour：大口吞噬。可以指吃東西，可以指津津有味地看讀（本文中的意思），可以指（火焰、洪水等）吞沒，淹沒。翻譯得雅一點，就是饕餮了。

adaptation：改編，指把小說改成電視電影，反過來也可以。動詞是adapt，也有適應的意思，適者生存。注意和另一個高頻詞adopt區分，后者是采用（方法、態度）、通過（決議等）、收養、采取（舉止、說話方式）的意思。
mega 是表大的前綴，有一種比大還大的大。想表達Bigger than big的時候可以用。這個詞/前綴受到了俄羅斯戰斗民族的狂熱喜愛，到處可見，就連一個街邊小賣部都敢叫自己 megastore。

blockbuster：專指票房大片。很形象的一個詞，block 指街區，bust 指摔壞、打壞，買票的人把一個街區都擠壞了，電影顯然大賺特賺啊。Blockbuster還曾是一家影碟租賃的巨頭，高峰期有近萬家店，2010年的時候破產了，又是一個被網絡淘汰的行業。很多90后和00后都沒有租影碟來看的經歷吧。
Bust是個很常用的詞，送一個常用的表達。如果你發現別人干壞事，你可以大喊：busted！大意就是抓住了。希望你不是被別人喊出 busted 的對象。有首歌很精彩，主題是一個姑娘發現男友劈腿后怒砸車窗，很好聽，歌名叫 Bust your windows，cei 你丫車窗，歌詞簡單又解氣，網易云音樂上就有。
lethargic：無精打采的。

slow 是幼兒園詞匯了，但越簡單的詞意思越豐富。slow 和生意搭配的時候，是指生意不好，東西賣得慢了，生意自然就不好。所以這里的 slow summer 可不是慢吞吞的夏天，而是指這個夏天生意不好。slow 形容人的時候，絕大部分時候不是說這個人速度慢唷（除非上下文特別明顯），而是指他很笨，反應慢就是笨嘛。更多罵人的話歡迎留言討論，哈哈哈。
