Today, we are going to share the habit of writing in a diary.
People are always busy trying to create a better life. They think by being constantly busy, the quality of their life is good. But, in fact, they’ve lost their life. This is a quote paraphrased from a Roman philosopher about 2,000 years ago.
Imagine that 2,000 years ago people were still struggling with the problem of constantly being busy but not producing the kind of life they truly wanted for themselves.
If we can’t record accumulated habits in life or constant surging wisdom and let them pass by, this could be the most wasteful thing in this world.
After researching the lives? many famous celebrities and dignitaries, I found a common habit: most of them have the habit of writing in a diary.
Along with getting up in the morning and planning your day in the morning, the habit of writing in your diary will greatly improve the quality of your life.
Writing in a diary is a great habit.
Many years ago, I found a book called The Magic of a Morning Diary written by a Japanese writer. The book convinced me to write in a diary each morning. Also, from this book, I learned many techniques and methods to write in a way that will improve your life. Today, I will share these with you.
From April 13th, 2009 to this day, 7 years now, I’ve written in my morning diary. When I began doing this I didn’t always write in the morning. Occasionally I would write in the afternoon or in the evening.
But, over the past four years, I have never missed a morning.? It has become such a good habit.
There are two kinds of habits: one is a common habit; and the other one is a successful habit.
I have dreams. I am a person with dreams. And my habits can help me to achieve my dreams.
I don’t want to waste my precious time on trifles. I have no time to waste on trifles. I want to spend all my precious energy on realizing my dreams. Therefore, I insist in writing in a diary.
Every day when I get up, I will spend 3 minutes opening my mobile phone, because there is useful software on it. Now, I am using Evernote, for there are years’ accumulated models as well as records of yesterday. In the sense, what I need to do is copy and changing titles.
Each day, in Evernote, I will write down the date and location. Now it is as natural as counting to ten. I record the day’s weather. For instance, now, I am in Guangzhou. It’s cloudy. I will record the temperature. In this way, I start writing without delay.
Then, I will review the yearly goals that I have written in Evernote. I see how many goals I need to realize in this year. Also, I will look at the frogs for this month. The frog is the most challenging items for the month.
We should ever do positive matters, do matters exert positive influences on our life.
When I look ahead to the goals I want to accomplish over the months and year, I break it down and think about what I need to do today that will get me closer to that ultimate goal. What can I do now that is not urgent but still necessary to get me to those goals?
I will also write down my thoughts and reflections on what happened yesterday. In this way, day after day and year after year, I’ve record my thoughts and reflections. Through this practice, I am able to convert the things I learned into the positive steps to achieve my future goals.
Confucius once told his disciples that “Every day, I examine myself on three counts”. Have you ever done it?
Socrates once said, “It’s not worth to live a life without self-inspection”!
We can improve our diary writing skills by combining the lessons learned from sages, of the past with those from modern western techniques.
In our last lesson, we talked about how to get up.
Remember… to use natural light, fragrances, music and a shower.
In this phase, we shared the habit of writing in a morning diary when you get up.
Are you willing to start?
If you’re willing to start, it could be the start of something great. Why don’t you try?
