言歸正傳：
雙11早先人們稱作是光棍節，英文是Single’s Day，后來經過馬爸爸的包裝打造，創意設立為雙11網購節（Nov 11 Shopping Carnival），推動了中國網絡經濟的蓬勃發展。
在雙11里，時常能淘到很便宜的網購商品。
問題來了：
如何用英文表達買來的東西很超值呢?
有以下幾種表達方法：
That’s a good/great deal.
It’s a real bargain.
It’s a steal.
可是你知道嗎？
雙11不僅有網購，
在美國歷史上更有開天辟地的意義！
1620年11月11日，在一艘名叫五月花的船(Mayflower)上，大家簽署了一個契約，這就是著名的《五月花公約》（Mayflower Compact），這是美國歷史上第一份政治契約，奠定了后面的獨立宣言和美國憲法的基礎。
有好學的童鞋會問：
這幫人從哪里來?
為什么要簽這樣一個契約?
且聽我慢慢道來——
這幫人來自英國，當時在英國存在一個教派叫清教，清教徒（Pilgrim）戒律深嚴，和主流宗教格格不入。當時，有36名清教徒為了避免宗教的迫害，堅守自己心中的信仰，決定坐船來北美，建立自己的世外桃源。當然，船上還不止這36個人，還包括船員、勞工，還有一些流浪者、奴隸等數十人。
他們行程規劃的落腳點有人接應，而且登陸合法，因為事先取得了英王的特別許可證。（這有沒有讓你想起來西游記的通牒文書啊?）
可是11月11日這天，他們已經消耗完船上的食品，而且臨近冬天，天氣變得越來越惡劣，所以必須就近登陸，這距最初行程規劃的落腳點還差二百多英里。
登陸后，面對他們的將是神秘的印第安人，更別說酷寒和饑荒了。
除了36名清教徒，船上的其余數十人其實來北美大陸的目的不一，各有各的算盤。所以全船百余人必須首先團結一致，在登陸前他們決定約法三章，這個約定就是《五月花公約》。
簽署這個契約的一共有41人，均為男性。重要的不是契約內容本身，而是每個人都堅信此契約，并且嚴格遵守契約的承諾，實際也證明了這一點。
《五月花公約》的原始文件現在已經找不到了，從17世紀以來一共有3個不同的版本，這3個版本在措辭上略有不同，但是在拼寫、大小寫和標點符號方面卻有很大的不同。我們現在經?？吹降氖乾F代版本（modern version），讓我們膜拜一下吧：
In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are underwritten, the loyal subjects of our dread Sovereign Lord King James, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, defender of the Faith, etc.
Having undertaken, for the Glory of God, and advancements of the Christian faith and honor of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the Northern parts of Virginia, do by these presents, solemnly and mutually, in the presence of God, and one another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politic; for our better ordering, and preservation and furtherance of the ends aforesaid; and by virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equal laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions, and offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the general good of the colony; unto which we promise all due submission and obedience.
In witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names at Cape Cod the 11th of November, in the year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord King James, of England, France, and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland the fifty-fourth, 1620.
這契約語言措辭都是很嚴謹的法律宣誓用語，我們還是學些接地氣的英語吧:
They drew up and signed a compact which obliged the signers to obey whatever was decided to be for the public good.

最后有個細節值得一提，清教徒（Pilgrims）只有36人，其實在五月花船上少于半數，算是少數派，但正是他們主導了《五月花公約》的簽訂。
