2. 體會這個詞 （進階篇）
我們之前學過動詞 justify 的用法，今天我們學習它的形容詞 justifiable。根據它的英文釋義，我們知道它常用來表示“正常的”“情有可原的”，因此常用來替換 acceptable 和 good reason to do something。我們通過幾個例子掌握它的用法。
justifiable 可以和我們之前學過的 grounds（表示“理由）連起來用，表示出于某個理由，這種做法是情有可原的。比如出于自衛，反擊是合情合理的：
The counter-attack is justifiable on the grounds of self-defence.
我們平時說的“說不過去”就可以說成“be hardly justifiable“。比如我們常說的“一命換一命”，這種說法是可以理解的，但是很多情況下是不正當、說不過去的：
What he has done is understandable but hardly justifiable.
和大多數形容詞一樣，我們可以用在它前面加一個副詞，表示在某方面是正當的，比如：
The argument of whether assisted dying is morally justifiable remains debatable.
《經濟學人》中也經常用到 justifiable，比如：
1）Laws protecting animals are perfectly justifiable, not because they have rights, but because we value their welfare and are repulsed by acts of cruelty against them.

3）Japan’s government says the International Whaling Commission (IWC) long ago abandoned its original purpose of managing whale stocks, which allows hunting within the limits that science deems justifiable, and is now a conservation body.
