Which is the true language of the future?”

Spanish?VS Mandarin Chinese? Which is the true language of the future?
Other than English, which language will become more important? Spanish or Chinese?
In my opinion, it is Spanish by far and won't even be close due to the difficulty of Mandarin and widespread of Spanish throughout the world, but still want to hear your opinions.

Actually Mandarin should be by now the world’s most important language, it has the most speakers, its position is boosted by an upcoming economic superpower, but Mandarin is still a less commonly taught language. Far more people learn Spanish, French, or even Russian and Japanese than Mandarin. Check out the StackOverflow sites for Japanese and Chinese. The Japanese site is thriving, the Chinese is still in beta after 5 years since launch.
It looks like, Mandarin is a difficult to learn language and the time investment it requires to learn Mandarin at business fluency level is way more than you need to get to the same level in Spanish. If Chinese hasn’t been able to gain much traction, it looks like it won’t make it in the near future either.
Chinese has a complex and tedious writing system and the Chinese know that themselves, so the main language for communicating with Chinese still is and will be English.
Chinese speakers are concentrated in 2 or 3 countries, Spanish is the official language of more than 20. Moreover, the fertility rate of China is low, lower than that of most countries in Latin America. China is currently below the replacement level 2.1 children / mother.
Which means that the number of Spanish speakers in the future is on the rise, while the number of Chinese speakers is going to decrease or at best stabilize.
That does not off course mean, that you should not learn Mandarin Chinese. For individual career opportunities both are excellent.
