It was all so familiar and yet so completely mental at the same time. The whole story takes some time to process and might have left you wondering if this wasn't just a weird, trippy New Year's Day dream.

Leaving this to one side, The Abominable Bride is possibly the funniest episode of Sherlock to date and the dialogue crackles away.

All in all, The Abominable Bride is something that should never, ever be replicated again in the history of television. But as a one-off it was charming and for all those missing their favourite super sleuth, he was back in all his glory even if it was all thoroughly silly.
