當時，Simon Reynolds 發現越來越多搖滾樂隊，開始在歌曲中加入別的類型音樂風格元素。
酷派爵士、即興爵士、氛圍音樂、雷鬼音樂（主要集中在混音技術上），或者 70 年代的前衛搖滾等等多重的風格，都成為了當時一批樂隊的創作元素。
其中比較典型的例子，就是英國樂團 Bark Psychosis 的專輯《Hex》。
