We do not choose to be born.We do not choose our parents.We do not choose our historical epoch,the country of our birth,or the way in which we aare brought up.We do not,most of us,choose to die;nor do we choose the time or conditions of our death.But within all this realm of lack of choice,we must choose how we shall live;courageously or in cowardice,honorably or dishonorably,with purpose or in drifty.
我們不能選擇出生，我們不能選擇父母。我們不能選擇時代，不能選擇國籍和生長環境。我們大部分人不能選擇死亡，不能選擇死亡的時間和條件。但是在這個缺乏選擇余地的王國里，我們必須選擇怎樣生活，是勇于面對還是膽怯退縮，是自尊自強還是茍且偷生，是胸懷目標還是隨波逐流。
