本節畫風突變，Winston在閣樓被抓，關進了監獄，在監獄中各種煎熬，遇到了形形色色的人，普通罪犯，思想犯，Ampleforth ，甚至還遇到了因為說夢話，被自己女兒舉報的Parsons，chinless man, skull-faced man , 直到后來O’Brien出現，Winston遭遇了一頓暴打。
