Simulation
After the controller is built you can simulate its behavior in multiple modes such as optimization or reaction to feed disturbances.
Create a default simulation scenario: - Click on the Simulation folder in the tree nodes and click New.
- Accept the default name.
This opens the Controller/Model selection window where, by default, the only Controller and Simulation model available are selected.
If you want to test various controller designs against process model mismatches, you need to build the corresponding controllers and create other simulation models (in Model Builder). These additional process models and controllers will appear in this window where they can be selected.
The following events will be used to perform this default scenario:
? At step 5 the controller status will change from Standby to control,
? At step 5 a Feed (DV) flow ramp increase of 500 tonnes over 10 minutes will be introduced, and
? At step 100 the controller status will change from control to optimize.
Follow these steps to define the previous simulation events. The radio buttons at the top of the Scenario node can be used to toggle the display between all and relevant parameters. Click on the Display Relevant Step 1 radio button to hide settings unrelated to this simulation. - In the General tab, specify the following parameters: Economic Function Selection, Tracking Filter and Economic Coefficient value.
- In the Sub_Debutanizer tab, fill in the operating point information and control specifications on the qualities and loading.
- Click on Hide Step 1 and enter the following suggested scenario events: control/optimize controller mode in the General tab and Feed flow ramp in the Sub_Debutanizer tab.
To access the simulation facility, select Plot in the tree node.
While running the simulation, you can see the moves in Reflux and Reboil and the variations in Qualities and in the Tray Load.
