[M7] About the True of Backwardness

  1. Do you have the ability of a certain aspect that ranks in the top 20% compared with that of your surrounding people?
No, none of my faculty has reached that level.

  2. Have you considered how can you gradually make your ability of a certain aspect grow into the top 20% among your surrounding people? Besides making resolve, what specific methods and steps do you have?
Of all my faculties, English takes the dominant position. I always know there exist countless people whose English level is far beyond my reach. One essential criterion for judging the English level is to measure one’s output, that is, writing and speaking, which I may score low. Thus I have begun to practice English writing each day, hoping to continue this action for as long as possible. Besides, I begin to read some Chinese passages concerning the improvement of writing, which I used to loathe doing because I do not have the intention to read materials written in Chinese. As a mater of fact, those passages are as guiding as encouraging. On the other hand, I try hard to restart my morning speaking practice of English materials. To guarantee the adequacy of time, getting up at 6 o’clock is neccessary. In a word, I should not talk more of quality than I can of quantity.

  3. Spend 30 minutes each day reflecting on whether you have an illlusion that you should think of one of your faculties of a certain aspect as being above the average level. Use a notebook to list privately your illusions, anyway you will not show them publicly.
I may have an illusion that each day I have invested enough concenration in studying in the daytime. Thanks to the time-recording app, I can try to avoid some self-deceiving thoughts. After all, data weighs. On the other hand, I have to bear in mind that what I am learning just belongs to the initial part of the field, so even if I progress quickly, that is only because I am still on the shallow layer. In addtion, concerning executing items listed in my time-recording app, some, say, physical exercises and French learning still lag behind.
