雖然國際學生沒有資格獲得聯邦和州財政援助，但是他們還有其他方法來獲取國際教育的資助。最重要的事情是不要氣餒，為了在美國學習，每個學生已經克服了許多困難，比如SAT, TOEFL，推薦信，個人陳述。因此，尋找援助資金也是可以做到的！
許多大學有為國際學生設立的助學金，助學金的使用和頒發需要大學的國際事務辦公室（International Affairs office）核查。助學金 經常會頒發給那些經濟困難的學生。然而，許多符合這筆獎學金的要求的國際學生都已經在大學里已經連續學習兩個學期了，當然啦，每個大學情況不同。
除了助學金，也有根據學生出色的學術成績，天賦或者個人特點而發放的獎學金。這就是你為什么要保持你的GPA在3.5以上的原因。另一個獲得資金的方式是申請研究經費。
比如，加州伯克利分校(我的母校)有各種不同的國際學生有資格申請研究經費。然而，許多國際學生不申請獎學金或者助學金竟然是因為他們害怕他們的學生身份會成為一個阻止他們得到研究經費的阻礙，而這種想法極其不正確。
為了確保你不會錯過任何得到資助的機會，最好把你所在大學的職業中心（career center）和研究所（research institutes）的郵箱添加在訂閱列表里。一旦在訂閱列表上，你就會定期收到有關獎學金的簡訊。
申請研究獎學金與申請大學很相似。所有的獎學金申請都有一個個人陳述的環節，需要申請者來表明你的成就，說明為什么你值得得到這個獎學金。不像個人陳述，獎學金申請者需要你對你的職業目標有一個更清楚的規劃。如果你申請科研補助金，那么你的申請里就需要對你的研究有一個詳細的計劃。
積極的學生會去教導處，直接與獎學金顧問進行交談，來確保他們文章和申請擁有足夠的競爭力。參加咨詢會是與獎學金顧問見面并尋求個人建議的最好方式，同時也可以讓學生與獎學金申請材料的審核人面對面。
另外，在校園外也可以找到很多獲得獎學金的機會——美國有很多在線獎學金平臺，這些平臺都是國內的留學中介根本不知道的，因為這些平臺不是針對中國學生開放的，但如果仔細看這些平臺，可以發現有很多獎學金是對國際學生(包括中國學生)開放的。每一項獎學金都有不同的要求和存在的理由，學生大可申請符合自己要求的獎學金。
總的來說，獎學金和研究經費是資助你的教育的絕佳方式。盡管得到獎學金需要在申請和個人文書上花費很多時間和經歷，但是結果是很美好的！

Applying to scholarships
Although international students are not eligible for federal and state financial aid, there are other methods to funding international education. The most important thing to remember is to never feel discourage. In order to study in the United States, the individual student has overcome numerous barriers such as the SAT, TOEFL, recommendation letters, and personal statements, finding funding is possible.
Many universities have need based scholarships for international students, check with International Affairs office. Need based scholarships are awards for students that have dire financial need. However, many need based scholarships require that the international student have already studied two consecutive terms at the academic institution. This depends on the academic institution.
Aside from need-based aid, there is also merit-based aid. Scholarships that are merit-based are awarded based on a student’s outstanding academic achievements, talent, or personal characteristics. This is why keeping your GPA above a 3.5. Another option is to apply for research grants.
For example, the University of California, Berkeley has various research scholarships that international students qualify for. However, many international students do not apply for fellowships or grants because they fear that their student status acts as a barrier which prevents them from obtaining the scholarships, and this type of thought is highly inaccurate!
To ensure that you don’t miss out on funding opportunities, it is best to join the email list for the career center and the research institutes at your perspectives universities. Once you are apart of their email list, you will receive regular newsletter about scholarships.
Applying to research scholarships is similar to applying for universities. All scholarships have a personal statement that requires applicants to discuss your achievements and why you think you are deserving of the scholarship. Unlike personal statements, scholarship applications require you to have a clearer idea of your career goals. If you are applying for a research grant, it is expected that your proposal has a detailed plan of your research.
Proactive students will seek out the office and speak with the scholarship adviser directly to ensure that their essay and application is strong. Attending information sessions are the best way to meet the scholarship advisers and seek personal advice. Attending information sessions also allows students to personal meet the people that will be reading your scholarship application.
In addition, there are also plenty of scholarship opportunities that are availableoff campus - there are a number of scholarship platforms in the States that most study abroad agents in China are unaware of, that international students are eligible to apply to as long as they meet criteria. Each of these scholarships have different purposes.
Overall, scholarships and research grants are a great way to help you finance your education. Although being award a scholarship requires time and dedication to the application and personal statement, the result will surely be sweet!
