Peter Thiel, a famous Silicon Valley investor, told the journalist from the Wall Street Journal that the company can be divided into happy companies and unhappy companies.Peter Thiel has invested in some well-known technology companies, including SpaceX,Yelp, Quora, Spotify and so on.
Happy companies have a sense of mission, thus they tend to find something special, which gives them a mission and monopoly in some ways, "They don't have to compete, so they can set higher prices for their products; Unhappy companies could not avoid mediocrity. In Peter Thiel's perspective, as for the entrepreneurs and startups, their goal should always be monopoly within the industry, for the reason that there are only two companies in this world: monopoly companies and non profitable companies. Peter Thiel said, now monopoly companies do pretend that they don’t monopolize industries, because they want to avoid interference and the management from the government; however those companies that can’t monopolize the industry will pretend to be special, seemingly reaching the goal of industry monopoly, in order to attract investors and customers.
Peter Thiel also wrote in his best-selling book From 0 To 1 that he had to establish a viewpoint of monopoly in the company.
