What are Words是首2011年的歌曲，曾經聽過，卻未曾關注過它背后的故事。在一個英語節目“八點英語”中聽到了對這首歌的介紹，非常感動。
主唱人Chris Medina曾經是星巴克的服務員，當他跟相戀八年的女友求婚成功，即將步入婚姻殿堂時，女友卻遭遇了車禍導致腦部重創，康復以后生活不能自理，智力和幾歲的小朋友沒有什么區別，但Chris依然不離不棄地陪著她。
后來他參加選秀節目“美國偶像” （American Idol），想要獲取獎金，能夠為女友治病，但很遺憾止步24強。但他的故事和這首感人的歌卻感動了億萬觀眾。他的滿腹深情都表達在歌詞里了。

然而，再深入地去了解這首歌的時候，卻發現兩人還是分手了，長達15年的愛情走到了盡頭。實在讓人唏噓不已。
2014年他們正式分手，Chris的女友發了一個長文，其中說到：

是的，唏噓不已的只是眾人，故事的主角已經釋然，他們并沒有因愛生恨，今生會以另一種方式維系著彼此的關系。
生活中充滿著各式各樣的考驗，有時候很諷刺，我們翻過了一座巨石，卻敗給了一顆小石子。會遺憾，會憂傷，但如果不能挽回，那么最終留給記憶一些美好，記住翻越巨石的歲月還有和那段歲月一起消逝的人。
