What father or mother can put together a child's toy from the instructions on the box?Our national tendency is to inflate and thereby sound important.

-2.hassle

During the 1960s the president of my university wrote a letter to modify the alumni after a spell of campus unrest.“You are probably aware,”he began,“that we have been experiencing very considerable potentially explosive expression of dissatisfaction on issues only partially related.”He meant that the students had been hassling them about different things.

They blame themselves——they obviously missd something,and they go back over the mustifying sentence,or over the who 了paragraph,piecing it out like an ancient rune,making guesses movong on.

But the secret of good writing is to strip every sentence to its cleanest components.Every word that serves no function,every 么long word that could be a short word,every adverb that carries the same meaning that's already in the verb,every passive construction that leaves the reader unsure of who is doing what—these are the thousand and one adulterants that weaken the strength of a sentence.

今天的兩個章節我讀了兩遍,第一遍讓我初步熟悉了前兩個章節的概況,第二遍讓我能夠將自己的一些想法和文章內容相結合。

同樣的,兩次的翻閱也讓我對這段話有了不同的想法。

真正的文字愛好者喜歡咬文嚼字,更偏向于對文字的鉆研,而真正的寫作者,更善于用精簡的文字將復雜問題簡單陳述,言簡意賅。恰恰讓我想起有幾年興起的一些文學作品里往往出現更多的是咬文嚼字的功夫,把冠冕堂皇的辭藻當作寫作功底的展現,也許就是一種對寫作不夠深刻的認識吧。今天讀至此,也用這段話警醒自己,好好提高寫作功夫,類比其他的事情亦是如此,應真正做到掌握精髓,而不是流于表面。

我想起白天工作時收到外國客戶的郵件回復,很明顯的與自己帶有中式思維的Chinglish對比鮮明。以此激勵自己,好好讀完這本書,好好學習寫作!
