Choices 選擇

Time is like a river that carries us forward into encounters with reality that require us to make decisions. -Ray Dalio

About what is life, everyone has their own answers. One of my former leaders said that life meant trouble. He kept meeting all kinds of troubles and met the next one after solving one. I don't agree with the negative in his statement, but I get his point. For me, life is about constantly solving problems and making choices.

I once talked with my dad when watching a blind date show. I said that a person's character can be seen from his choices. What was the decision he made, what kind of state he was in when chose, whether he made the decision independently or not, we can tell a lot of traces of this person's character. Each of us is built by our own countless choices.

There may be only a tiny difference in one choice, but after countless choices, there may be a huge difference between me and "I". Surely, in fact, most of the time, it is the self-outlooks made up of all our experiences that behind our choices. Just because I am me, I make such choices and become who I am now.

But we can also be influenced by other people's "principles". Like when I open the Book Principles, I may feel the same for some principles, be insensitive for some else (I haven't had the experiences that can trigger these principles), and oppose a few (my experiences make me unable to identify with them). The principles I read may become part of the conscious or subconscious, and the next time a decision needs to be made, they will become influencing factors, positive or negative.

It's also practical to sum up our own principles. Although the choices we have made may seem good, and the previous life may seem smooth, if we only rely on luck or intuition, it's a boat that has no direction and can't control the direction. If there is no external force, the weather is good, you float downstream, but once someone digs a canal, or the rainstorm pours, that'll become terrible. This's why we go to see, listen, ask and experience more.
