一、什么是名詞性從句？
① The movie is encouraging.
這部電影很鼓舞人心。（名詞做主語）
What I saw last night is encouraging.
昨天我看的東西很鼓舞人心。（從句作主語）（主語從句）
② I appreciate the hero.
我欣賞這位男主角。（名詞作賓語）
I appreciate what the hero said in the movie.
我欣賞男主人公在電影中說的話。（從句作賓語）（賓語從句）
③ He is a tough guy.
他是一個堅強的人。（名詞作表語）
He is who we should learn from in despair.
他是我們在絕望中應該學習的人。（從句作表語）（表語從句）
④ I enjoy the movie，The Shawshank Redemption.
我喜歡《肖申克的救贖》這部電影。（名詞作同位語）
I enjoy the plot of the movie that Andy saved himself with great ambition.
我喜歡這部電影：安迪最終通過自己偉大的志向拯救了自己。（從句作同位語）（同位語從句）
小結：
名詞在句子中能夠充當?shù)某煞?，從句都可以充當，這就是名詞性從句。名詞性從句一共包括四類：
主語從句、賓語從句、表語從句、同位語從句。
二、名詞性從句引導詞
引導詞有好幾個，到底怎么使用呀？先看下面的例子：
①他能贏得這場比賽是很確定的。
【翻譯】He will win the competition is certain.
【正確】That he will win the competition is certain.
②他能否贏得這場比賽還不得而知。
【翻譯】Will he win the competition is still a question.
【正確】Whether he will win the competition is till a question.
③他為什么能贏得這場比賽是很明顯的。
【翻譯】Why can he win the competition is self-evident.
【正確】Why he can win the competition is self-evident.
【解析】
什么時候用 that、whether 或是 why？那請先思考，這三個主語從句有什么區(qū)別？
① 他能贏得這場比賽。→ 陳述句
② 他能贏得這場比賽嗎？→ 一般疑問句
③ 他為什么能贏得這場比賽？→ 特殊疑問句
小結：主語從句的引導詞按照從句的類型來劃分可分成三類:
① that: 當從句是陳述句時 。需要注意的是 that 在從句中不充當成分 , 也沒有實義。
② whether: 當從句是一般疑問句時。whether 在從句中不充當成分 , 但意思為 " 是否" 。引導詞后面的一般疑問句要改成陳述句。（需要注意的是：if 也可以譯為 "是否" , 在這兩個引導詞中 whether 可以引導所有的名詞性從句, 而 if 只能引導賓語從句 。）
③ 特殊疑問詞: 當從句是特殊疑問句時 。引導詞后面的特殊疑問句要改成陳述句。常見的連接副詞有： when、where、why 和 how；常見的連接代詞有： who、whom、what、which 和 whose。并且這些特殊疑問詞一般都有固定的意思。
注意：英語中所有的從句一定都是陳述句的形式，也就是引導詞+主語+謂語的形式。
小試牛刀：
① 當你身處低谷時，周圍的人會對你很冷漠是顯而易見的。（主語從句）
【翻譯】That people around you are indifferent to you when you are at a low point?is quite self-evident.
② 他們?nèi)耶敵鯙槭裁措x開河南去新疆至今為止都是個秘密。（主語從句）
【翻譯】Why his family left Henan for Xinjiang at the beginning?is a secret until now.（leave...for...離開某地去某地）
③ 讀書的目的是凈化我們的靈魂是毋庸置疑的。（主語從句）
【翻譯】That reading is to purify our minds?is beyond dispute.
④ 雖然我已經(jīng)結婚了，但是你是不是真的曾經(jīng)愛過我一直是我的疑惑。（主語從句）
【翻譯】Although I have been married, whether you really loved me has been my doubt.
⑤ 有一天你會發(fā)現(xiàn)，事業(yè)、親情和友情都比愛情重要。（賓語從句）
【翻譯】Someday, you will find that careers, kinship and friendship are more important than love itself.
⑥ 我正在思考我是否應該放棄考研。（賓語從句）
【翻譯】I am reflecting whether I should give up the Postgraduate Entrance Examination.
⑦ 幸福就是一個人可以按照自己想要的方式過完一生。（表語從句）
【翻譯】Happiness is that a person can live his life in the way he wants.
⑧ 我想知道的是你嫁給他多年后過得幸福嗎？（表語從句）
【翻譯】My wonder is whether you have enjoyed yourself all these years after you married him.
⑨ 沒有什么能夠掩蓋她正在變老這個事實。（同位語從句）
【翻譯】Nothing can hide the truth that she is growing old.
⑩ 她和男朋友分手了這個謠言是不可信的。（同位語從句）
【翻譯】The rumor that she broke up with her boyfriend is not credible.
