人家都說，拾起筆的第一天是最難的，誰不想能有這個心情，能有這個勇氣收起凡塵俗事的困擾。從數(shù)不清哪一天前開始每天都有一點閱讀習慣，我去哪里都喜歡拿著久久的古老的書，坐地鐵，工作間休息的時候。用別人都在刷朋友圈的時間看書，從不知什么時候發(fā)現(xiàn)朋友圈離開我很久了，從以前的“不刷完不起床”到現(xiàn)在“閱覽速度驚人，其實就挑著我想看的東西看“，那是因為自從開始看書以后，發(fā)現(xiàn)朋友圈越來越?jīng)]有營養(yǎng)了。
回歸正題，今天推薦兩本英文原著書：《The Scarlet Letter》《Twice-Told Tales》，都是出自同一個人的手，Nathaniel Hawthorne，19世紀美國小說家，代表作是《The Scarlet Letter》，不知是否有中文版可以看，好難翻譯這個標題，只有看過整本書的人才能夠體會到這個標題的意思吧。第二本書也很出名在當時的美國，《重說一遍的故事》，不知道翻譯得對不對，膚淺地能這么翻譯吧。
Nathaniel Hawthorne是一位偉大的作家。在《The Scarlet Letter》中，他已經(jīng)被認為是一名浪漫主義者，而且是黑暗的那種，用他精湛的語言描寫揭露了當時的清教徒社會以及清教徒中最黑暗的一面。同一個作者，我驚奇地發(fā)現(xiàn)在我昨天閱讀的《Twice-Told Tales》中，他用每個小故事展現(xiàn)出一種溫柔還有一種人性的關愛。《Twice-Told Tales》是由許多小故事組成，每一個故事，每一個人，每一個渲染的地方，每一個情感，每一個情節(jié)，都是完美的，讀完以后心情不知道為什么，很愉悅，很開心。
我希望高中生能看看《Twice-Told Tales》，因為在這本書中，Hawthorne 用他的溫柔，用他的那種對人性的關愛寫下了每一個小故事，不能說拯救了我們的“人之初，性本善”吧，只能說讓高中生對這個社會的看法也不會太壞，凡事都有因果，社會的進步退步跟人民密不可分，別憤青，想想你能做點什么，如果不能，好好接受。同時，可能會讓學生對自己的命運選擇，還有更多的后續(xù)內(nèi)容進行一個啟發(fā)。對于氣質(zhì)也是一個不錯的積累。因為通過小小的故事，學生們可以對栩栩如生的美國歷史進行一些討論，人性如何復雜，為何復雜，人的命運，人的年齡，什么對你來說是最重要的，什么是值得你用生命來守護的，柏拉圖式的愛情，身體的愛情，孤獨，快樂，悲傷。如果您對寫作有興趣的話，可能還能啟發(fā)學生們的寫作思路以及素材積累呢。
最神奇的是在《Twice-Told Tales》這本書中的24個小故事，讓我挑出一個最愛的我都無能為力，因為沒有原因，都太精彩了，沒有敷衍了事，沒有草草結(jié)筆。
－ 在“Legends of Province House”四卷故事中，有一個擔心美國革命時代的老忠實粉絲分析這本書：the stories are both history lesson and a moving portrayal of the fears and anticipation of a changing America.?
－ 在“Lady Eleanor’s Mantle”這個故事中，在埋葬與焚燒中，可以讓一個國家蓬勃發(fā)展一步步壯大。
－ “The Village Uncle”提供了一個充滿美好生活的迷人場景，一位老年人是這樣評價的: “I recalled no happier portion of my life, than this, my calm old age.”
這個時代的完美故事當之無愧就是“The Sister Years”，講述了除夕。敘述者在描述未來一年作為一名年輕女子時，準確又完美，“so much promise and such an indescribable hopefulness in her aspect that hardly anybody could meet her without anticipating some very desirable thing?—?some long sought good?—?from her kind offices. A few dismal characters there may be, here and there about the world, who have so often been trifled with by young maidens as promising as she, that they have now ceased to pin any faith upon the skirts of the new year. But, for my own part, I have great faith in her; and should I live to see fifty more such, still, from each of those successive sisters, I shall reckon upon receiving something that will be worth living for.”?hallelujah.
故事發(fā)展到后面出來一個年長的姐姐，在新年前夕見面的時候，她建議自己的妹妹說“To expect no gratitude nor good will from this peevish, unreasonable, inconsiderate, ill-intending and worse-behaving world. However, warmly its inhabitants may seem to welcome you, yet, do what you may, and lavish on them what means of happiness you please, they will still be complaining, still craving what is not in your power to give, still looking forward to some other Year for the accomplishment of projects which out never to have been formed, and which, if successful, would only provide new occasions for discontent. If these ridiculous people ever see any thing tolerable inn you, it will be after you are gone forever.” 沒錯，就是“nail on the head”，完美（祖藍手勢）。
“Snowflakes” 絕對是一個對新英格蘭的冬天一個精美的描寫，寫得我發(fā)誓不敢往北走。
有些章節(jié)我都記得不太清了，有些情節(jié)我也記得不太清了（很有可能記混了哈哈），但是有些經(jīng)典的描寫還有人生哲理的啟發(fā)的句子我很多都抄下來了，有些放在Evernote 里面，都是我珍貴的記憶。
