昨天下午上了第一節口語課，50分鐘下來，Eric告訴我，我的英語水平并不基本，但要多練習，去更靈活地使用。
Eric是一個亞裔美國人，外祖母是廣東人，所以他懂英語、粵語和普通話。和他交流，有種語言上遇到知音的感覺，因為他的有些理念我很贊同，基本秒懂。這也是我試聽了半個小時就馬上決定付錢買課的原因。
Eric的語言觀和課堂的知識點，整理如下。
1.語言應用的層級觀
漢語交流時，人們對朋友、家人、老板、客戶，用詞不同，表達方式不同，英語也同樣。一個詞匯豐富，語言表達能力強的人，可以完美應對不同場合。和朋友表達親切玩笑，和商務伙伴用詞職業。
我最開始報班的目的，是對英語非常感興趣，事業遇到瓶頸時，希望以英語為突破口。學習商務英語，了解英語在職場中的應用場景，借此獲得在事業上更多的可能性。
但是，Eric試講時，舉了個例子，讓我明白，英語的場景不是割裂的，真正做到英語水平的提高，不是學一些商務的詞匯、課文就行的，也不是會背一些段落就可以的。
他的例句很簡單，Journalism is difficult.
Eric讓我用其它的詞替換difficult。我花了些時間想。想到了not a piece of cake/hard/ tough 這三個詞。
接著Eric寫下 not easy/challenge。
他說，這就是一個很簡單的例子。對朋友，也許我們會用not a piece of cake,在工作中，也許我們會用challenge。
而且，幾個表達“困難”的詞，程度也不同。
hard 比較困難
difficult 非常困難
complicated 特別復雜
而他將帶我達到的目標，是掌握更多的詞匯，可以應對朋友、家人、工作等不同層級的語言場景。
2.詞匯選擇注意表達感情
English is used more to express natural feelings(natural emotions).
和Eric討論后，我們確定第一堂課要聊一聊current affairs，就拿最近發生的Manchester Explosion為例。上課時，我流利地背出準備的資料時，他問我，做的是Translate還是Interpret.
他說我準備的資料過于technical,做為presentation還好，可是如果是日常聊這個話題，就未免過于機械了。而我所需要注意的，正是需要在語言表達時，多加入個人的看法，以及加入表達感情的詞匯。這就是他說的，英語表達中的natural feeling。
比如，如何表達這家飯館很好吃？
A.The food in this restaurant taste good.
B.The food in this restaurant is mouthwatering.
B句中，mouthwatering看字面就知道是流口水的意思，Eric更地道，說是流哈喇子。顯然，這個詞把這個意思寫活了，畫面感更強，背后的感情也更強烈，遠遠好過那個“面無表情”的taste good.
他接著說到Translate和Interpret的區別。Translate是嚴格按照字面的意義來翻譯，飯館就是restaurant，好吃就是taste good，是完全按照字詞，一一對照；而interpret，我理解是“義譯”,是把原句中的感情也表達出來，像是在翻譯保留文字的“骨架”基礎上，更保留了這句話中的“汁水”。這樣看來，A句就完全是translate,而B句把對這家館子的喜歡和表揚的感情也表達了出來。
3.Tone！
Tone我理解為“基調”,也有“聲調”的意思。
之所以談到這個部分，是因為Eric說，就在Manchester爆炸幾天前，在埃及也發生了一場爆炸，他接著問我怎么看。
我說，感覺這些兇手很不聰明，用自殺的方式，對任何人包括自己也不帶來好處，而且死的方式很凄慘。
但我描述凄慘時，表達為“in a tragedy way”.（語法也不對，應該是in a tragic way）
Eric說，tragedy的意思是悲劇，如果是一些無辜的人失去生命，可以這樣表達，有表達憐憫、惋惜和同情的意思。但放在一個殺人兇手身上，就很不合適了。
英語中，tone很重要，看到一個詞，先想意思再想感情。因為表達，不光有字面意思，背后傳達的感情也更為重要。
如：老板說，有個問題要和你談。
negative—problems / fate
positive—setbacks issues? challenges? / destiny
如果用的是problem，基本就是你做的工作出了大的問題，老板的態度很消極；但如果用的是setbacks/ issues / challenges，那證明老板的態度是積極的，問題還有解決的可能。
同樣，fate和destiny都表示緣份，但destiny是積極的，但fate相對消極。
英語表達中的tone，我理解，對應漢語的，更像是“聽話先聽音”里的那個“音”。
所以，在語言表達時，應該學會subtle—careful with what u and how u say it.
比如，說一個人fat. 可以換成’healthy’.
4.課上的收獲
1）描述臨時制作的詞
improvised臨時頂替暗示質量差可能不合格
self-made
home-made
我在描述bomber制作的炸彈時，用了improvised一詞，也是看到有些媒體這樣用，所以就現學現賣了。
但Eric告訴我，這種自制的，可以用self-made來表達。而improvised里，有“因為某種材料不全，而需要拿XX臨時頂替，質量或許不佳”之意。
如，要去參加宴會，本來應該買件晚禮服，但是由于沒有時間，只能在現有的衣服里隨便挑一件，臨時頂替—improvised.
2）炸彈爆炸
ignite煙花炸彈爆炸爐子點燃斗志激情等
explode
catch fire
start
這四個詞都可以。第一個詞引申的意義較多，可以表達煙花爆炸，啟動爐子，點燃斗志等。
3）表達痛苦
我在說，名人對爆炸的反應時，說Ariana Grande在她的微博上，showed her feelings.
Eric說，可以用express the ill / sick feelings.他看到我不解，問我，你病的時候什么感覺。我就明白了，就是一種很糟糕、難過的感覺。
在俚語中，ill / sick有好的意思.所以，如果有和你親近的朋友說，你具有職場的 ill skills，不要以為他在羞辱你，他只是用俚語表達你很厲害的意思。
4）死亡人數/死亡
casualtiesn. 傷亡；人員傷亡（casualty的復數
fatalitiesn. 災禍；命運；意外的的死亡事故
fatal
deadly
5）文章
passages長的書本的內容
articles可長可短線上的雜志上的
我們在網絡上、手機APP上讀的文章，用articels更合適。passage多為書中，如小說中的內容，一般比較長。
6）一些單詞
-facultyn. 科，系；能力；全體教員
這個詞是我在說fatalities時誤說的。其實是能力的意思。有道上找了個例句，Your?faculties?are your physical and mental abilities.
-ordinates縱坐標
不記得提到它的場景了。有道上的例句，To find out, align your global positioning system with some satellites, check the co-ordinates and pencil them on to a chart.
以上是第一節課的內容，最近會主要練習consistent 和vocabulary.
后面可以多去詞典(Merriam webster thesaurus )里看synonyms.

5.27 Manchester Attack
The blast happened on May 22nd in Manchester Arena where Ariana Grande held her concert. The death toll was more than 22 ,and about 60 persons were injured.Most of the victims ?were teenagers who don’t have their parents around them to let them calm down so they were just screaming and running and pushing at the scene.
The bomber was a 22-year-old British citizen named Abedi who carried an improvised suicide bomb that donated at the conclusion of the show and caused the atrocity.The Manchester police said it was the most horrific incident in Greater Manchester.This was treated as a terrorist attack and the police has worked hard to confirm whether he acted alone or part of a network.The attacker died on the spot and aftermath his brother and dad were arrested.About 8 persons were arrested by the England Police.
Lots of celebrities and politicians expressed their attitude on the social network. Donald Trump said that the bomber and the organization behind him loser and Ariana Grande also showed her sorrow on her twitter.
After the attack the south of Manchester has evacuated.Later the government reduced the terror threat level from the highest ‘critical’ to ‘severe’.The Prime Minister Theresa May said soldiers patrolling streets would gradually withdrawn.
However,the information of the attacker has evoked the attention of the pubic, cause the info was first revealed by a US media but not a Britain one.The Britain Government seemed unsatisfied with it but a new statement has been published that the intelligence exchange and cowork between the 2 countries won’t be affected.
